Sewing in communism

You must know that people in communistic countries had to be very creative.
As there is not much to buy in shops, people are forced to construct and repair different things themselves.

I saw my aunt sewing the hole in tights today.
She was surprised seeing me surprised.
But, come on, sewing THIGHTS??? I always buy a new pair if I get the hole in old ones.
I smelled here a communistic habit.

I know that in old times my mother used to sew almost all clothes for our family, even coats!
Me myself have even problems with sewing buttons (here helpful link:)

btw. you never know when you might need sewing skills. My russian friend had a ball few days ago. One hour before it, she burnt with iron a hole in front of her red skirt. As she said: "half an hour of hysterical creative sewing, and the updated dress was ready:)"

Maybe it is good to know how to sew also in capitalism:)
